The European Hornet, Vespa Crabro, is becoming more widespread in the UK due to our climatic changes.
Hornet nests can be found in lofts, outbuildings, hedges and old established trees. These nests should be avoided, as each hornet has a venomous sting which can be repeated up to five times.
Useful information if a hornet is found inside the home: Walk slowly, open all windows, leave the room and shut the door behind you!
Potential harm: Some people have immediate allergic reaction to being stung, such as an anaphylactic shock, which can be fatal. This affects approximately 3 people in 100.
Potential risk for the elderly, pregnant women and children.
